In April 1891 the total male population above 15 years of age in England and Wales was The average number living during the three years 1890 - 92 was probably about more than this; but as the difference is less than one-third per cent. Of the whole, no appreciable error will accrue from taking the census number as the average throughout the three years. The years of life at risk during this period amounted then to against years at risk in the period 1880-82.
